A priest I talked with several years ago described an experience in a house to which he had been called–I forget why–and I may be mixing up some details but as I recall, it was a very hot summer day and he went into a room that was painted black and it was ice cold in there like a tomb. As I remember it he knew that some kind of dark practice had been going on there, and again I forget the details but what I took away from his telling was that this priest, who was of the age when there was a pervasive de-emphasis of Satan, was shaken by the encounter with that room, as if he had not believed in that kind of thing and the experience opened his eyes to the possibility.
